Camberwell’s very own Speakers Corner

For Camberwell Arts Festival 2010 I was invited to create and curate Camberwell’s very own Speakers Corner. The most famous speaker’s corner has been in Hyde Park for over 150 years and has historically given the people the right to speak.

By inviting the local community to engage with some scheduled and pre-booked speakers, we aimed to give the community a forum to speak to each other. There were open slots on the day for the public to get directly involved.  There were no rules, content was completely ungoverned and topics ranged from open discussions of local politics to performances.

With thanks to Nicola Jell and Sam Pearce-Davies.
